This course is designed for people who wish to be able to bareboat charter boats in Colorado, the Virgin Islands, the Pacific Northwest or any other "American" sailing destination.  If you are interested in chartering in Europe, you will need to take the ASA 104 - Bareboat Chartering course.

Prerequisites:

ASA 101 or equivalent experience.   The course is 18 hours in length, all sessions are three hours in length. The course has four theory sessions and four practical sessions (3 on the J/22's and 1 on the J/30) on the water.  If you do not know how to "Head Up", "Bear Away", "Tack" & "Gybe", you will need to start with the Basic Keelboat course.

Please Note: 

If you have taken the ASA 101 through our school, since you have l=already purchased your lifejacket and attended the "Theory 1" and "Know Your Knots" classes, you will be purchasing the Upgrade From ASA 101 to ASA 103 Course product.

If you took the ASA 101 at a different school or are challenging the ASA 101, you will be purchasing the full ASA 103 - Basic Coastal Cruising course.  The difference in pricing is to pay for the lifejacket and access to the "Theory 1" and "Know Your Knots" classes.

Upon Completion:

You will have the knowledge, practical application, and ASA certification to bareboat charter in any U.S. waters. 

Starting Dates:

Starting dates are available online, with a new session starting about every 2 weeks (March 15th - September) - Starting Dates.  These are the classroom session, but since "Theory 1" is available online, you can really start at any time.  You can be studying "Theory 1" within 10 minutes of registering for the course.

Getting Started:

  • After you have registered, you will receive an automated email with instructions & credentials for our different web sites.
  • "Theory 1" and "Know Your Knots" can be taken in any order, but we do request that you have completed "Theory 1" prior to scheduling practical sessions.
  • "Theory 1" can either be taken in the classroom or online but the "Know Your Knots" is available in the classroom only.
  • Theories 2 & 3 are only available online.

Included:

  • An inflatable lifejacket (retailed at $99.99) handed out at either the "Theory 1" classroom session or the "Know Your Knots".
  • Access to all our online "Theory 1", "Theory 2" and "Theory 3" videos review at your leisure the material covered (for up to 1 year).
  • Notes for the theory (classroom sessions) and line for the "Know Your Knots" session.
  • Three Practicals (on the water sessions, including all required safety gear) on our J/22's.
  • One final practical (on the water sessions, including all required safety gear) on our J/30.
  • All safety gear.
