Pop Tester

 

Don't expect to walk away from this course without some grease on your hands.  The advanced 2 day class is designed for students who really wish to understand their engine and different troubleshooting techniques.

Prerequisites:

You must have completed the 1 Day Basic Diesel Engine Maintenance class. 

Upon Completion:

You will understand the techniques used to debug an engine that will not start.  The problems with the engines will be divided between mechanical and electrical, so you will have a couple of hours experience using a multieter so trace the electrical issues.

Starting Dates:

Getting Started:

  • After you have registered, you will receive an automated email with instructions on where and when the class is being held.
  • The class will be held at our shop location, 11726 Shaffer Place, Unit 606, close to C470 and Ken Caryl Parkway in Littleton, Colorado.
  • We typically handout all course material at the class.

Included:

  • All tools, gloves and safety gear.
  • We will supply coffee & water, pastries for breakfast & pizza or sandwiches for lunch.

General Description:

 You will break down into small groups of 4 to 5 students, each group working on a different engine, find and repair problems with a diesel engine that will not start and / or run properly.

Troubleshooting topics will include;

failure to crank,
engine not starting,
engine overheating,
engine not heating domestic hot water,
misfiring,
why it is so important to watch the smoke,
knocking,
runaway engine,
hydrostatic lock,
transmission linkages,

Maintenance & Repair Topics will include;

completely rebuilding & servicing the cooling system, including totally disassembling the heat exchanger,
adjusting valve clearances,
testing injector spray patterns,
service/replacing an injector, including adding additional shims
check engine timing,
adjust engine idle & no load wide open throttle
knocking
