Port<\/strong> &#x2b05;&#xfe0f;<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The left side of the boat when facing forward.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>4. Starboard<\/strong> &#x27a1;&#xfe0f;<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The right side of the boat when facing forward.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>5. Helm<\/strong> &#x1f3a1;<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The steering wheel or tiller used to steer the boat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>6. Boom<\/strong> &#x1f4cf;<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The horizontal pole (or spar) attached to the bottom of the sail. Watch your head\u2014it swings!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>7. Mainsail &amp; Jib<\/strong> &#x26f5;<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The two primary sails: the mainsail (the big one) and the jib (the smaller one in front).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>8. Tacking &amp; Jibing<\/strong> &#x1f504;<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Turning the boat by moving the bow (tacking) or stern (jibing) through the wind.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>9. Knot<\/strong> &#x1faa2;<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A unit of speed equal to 1.15 miles per hour (also a way to tie ropes!). Short hand version of Nautical Miles per Hour.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>10.
